New unique portable SitnStand enhances independent travel for elderly and disabled – as endorsed by healthcare professionals

Disabled and elderly independent travel is being revolutionised with the world's first SitnStand Portable Smart Rising Seat – now endorsed by leading healthcare professionals.
Exclusively launched in the UK, SitnStand is a travel-friendly portable device that provides safer sitting and standing for individuals with restricted mobility. It is a simple yet highly effective solution that incorporates air driven inflation and advanced technology – delivering an elevating level seat pad suitable for all types of chair, in any situation or location. This ensures users can sit down and stand up more easily at home, in the local community and during any holiday or excursion. There is no other lightweight solution available on the market that can transported and used in locations such as airports, hotels, cruise liners and caravans.
The solution is proving popular and is being prescribed by healthcare professionals who have identified its multiple benefits for their clients. Kate Sheehan, Occupational Therapist and Director of The OT Service, concludes: "SitnStand has inspired Occupational Therapists, as its innovation and design has led to a product that fits well with the ethos of Occupational Therapy. Due to its portability, it opens up a whole world of activities that clients want to do in their home, community and whilst travelling, therefore promoting health and wellbeing."
Ann Williams, Adult Social Care Occupational Therapist, Moving & Handling Lead, Oxfordshire County Council adds: “The SitnStand is an ideal solution for individuals who are experiencing problems with chair transfers when travelling, but who wish to maintain independence and a choice with use of seating. The portability and ease of use of the SitnStand is ideal for social individuals who are keen to continue travelling to different destinations whilst not relying on others for assistance. Promotion of choice and the fact that the SitnStand does not highlight disabilities in social and holiday situations are also important issues for consideration. The level seat pad and graduated, flat rise of the SitnStand facilitates a safer, more controlled sit-to-stand, with greater reassurance for the client, whilst maintaining present function.”
The SitnStand facilitates travel on buses, trains, planes and boats with cruising a popular option. Norma and Colin from Oxfordshire recently experienced a cruise with their SitnStand. Norma has a neurological condition which affects her ability to stand up independently however with the SitnStand she did not need Colin to assist. Colin comments: "Wherever we go, it goes. Restaurants, pubs, relatives’ homes...we even took it on a recent cruise around Scandinavia, it made the journey so much easier. Whilst cruising around the Baltic several passengers also tried Norma's SitnStand and were very impressed. I remember my mum had a large rise and recliner chair however this meant she could only use this chair and definitely couldn’t take it with her to different places!"
When living with restricted mobility or a health condition, the process of sitting and standing in a controlled and safe manner can be a challenge. Many people rely on the manual assistance of relatives, friends and carers to get in and out of a chair. This compromises freedom in many respects both at home and when travelling – resulting in a loss of inclusion, confidence and self-esteem. Loneliness and mental health issues continue to escalate amongst elderly and disabled people hence the need for independent mobility. According to Age UK, 3.6 million older people live alone with 1.9 million feeling ignored or invisible. By choosing the SitnStand greater social engagement is possible locally, nationally and internationally as travel is possible without the need for manual assistance when sitting or standing.
