Sunbeds have 6 times power of Spanish sun

SUNBEDS emit deadly UV radiation SIX times stronger than the midday Spanish summer sun, a study has revealed.

Almost 90 per cent of beds tested in Britain exceeded safety limits, doubling the risk of skin cancer.
Of the 402 tested, physicists found the average tanning canopy was twice as strong as the sun in Spain.
One in ten was 3.6 times stronger, with the worst six times more intense. Just 11 per cent fell within safe limits. The highest levels were in the North East and the lowest in the South West.
Last night Cancer Research UK, which funded the study by the University of Dundee, slammed councils for failing to do safety checks. But Gary Lipman, chairman of The Sunbed Association, said: “There has never been a safer time to use a sunbed.”
A Sun campaign forced a ban on sunbeds for under 18s in 2011, and outlawed the use of coin-operated tanning booths. Our Check Your Skin campaign urges readers to inspect their moles and spot early skin cancer signs.
