EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition is holding a Breast Health Day information event at the European Parliament in Brussels on 12 October. The aim is to ensure that the Breast Health Day ‘Make Healthy Choices’ message reaches parliamentarians and other policy makers. A growing body of evidence shows that daily healthy lifestyle choices, such as being active, eating a well-balanced diet and maintaining a healthy weight, can protect women’s future breast health.
EUROPA DONNA representatives will be on site at the European Parliament to distribute pamphlets containing these facts and to provide details of the campaign. The pamphlets will also be distributed to the mailboxes of the 736 MEPs.
“This is EUROPA DONNA’s opportunity to get the word out about prevention, not just to women and girls but to parliamentarians who can influence health policy in their own countries. Our goal of reducing breast cancer through healthy lifestyles is in keeping with the aims of the EU’s Public Health Programme,” said Bettina Borisch, President of EUROPA DONNA.

The 15 October 2011 Breast Health Day campaign is focused on raising awareness of lifestyle choices that can help prevent breast cancer later in life. Engaging in physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and eating a healthy diet can help protect breast health. In addition to women in general, the campaign reaches out to younger women and girls through social networking sites. Among other materials, it also includes a video and an online application for women to identify and commit to positive lifestyle resolutions related to physical activity.
