London: The tuberculosis capital of Europe

It's long been one of the biggest curable killers in the developing world, but now a review in the Lancet has concluded that London is the capital of tuberculosis infections in Europe. With infection rates running at over 9000 cases per year, the WHO now classes tuberculosis in London as having reached epidemic proportions - greater than 40 per 100,000. The incidence rate in London is now 44.3 cases per 100,000. The number of cases in London have risen by nearly 50 per cent since 1999, from 2,309 to 3,450.
