Jury rules in favour of Pfizer in US Prempro lawsuit

A Virginia jury ruled that Pfizer's Wyeth unit adequately warned the plaintiff's physicians about the increased risk of breast cancer associated with Prempro (conjugated estrogens), Bloomberg reported. The decision represents the company's fourth consecutive victory in a Prempro suit weighed by a jury.
In the latest trial, Pfizer lawyers argued that the plaintiff couldn’t demonstrate that Pfizer officials downplayed the drug's risks because she couldn't show which of her doctors prescribed the therapy. Pfizer spokesman, Chris Loder, noted that "we believe the verdict in this case affirms that Wyeth communicated the risks and benefits of Prempro."
To date, Pfizer's Wyeth and Upjohn units have won seven of the 14 cases that have gone to trial over the therapy since 2006. According to court filings, the company has also won dismissals of more than 3000 cases before trial.
