Geron enrols first patient in clinical trial of stem cell-based therapy

Geron Corporation on Monday announced the enrolment of the first patient in a clinical trial to evaluate its human embryonic stem cell-based therapy in patients with recent spinal cord injury. The initiation of the Phase I clinical trial comes less than two months after the FDA removed a clinical hold on such therapies and is thought to represent the first publicly known use of embryonic stem cells in humans.
