Daiichi Sankyo announced that its inhaled antiviral Inavir (laninamivir) was approved in Japan as a treatment for patients with influenza A and B viruses.
The drugmaker noted that a single dose of the long-acting neuraminidase inhibitor has shown to be as effective for the treatment of influenza as a five-day course of Roche's Tamiflu (oseltamivir).
